online uk82 "mixtapes" + laziness

i'm gonna be lazy for a while (i think) with these "blogs". theres tons more material out there but i will probably just tweak and fill the shit i already have. odds are that i will get all into some band that im listening to on the side and i will be possessed to have to do another post, but assuming that i'm gonna be lazy then meanwhile listen to these "mixtapes" i stumbled upon:

updates/news

Further Charges, goin outside of the usual punk box and covering Combat 84

So, I fucked around with some of the old posts, filling in some spots, but nothing too major except Instant Agony.

RECORD REISSUES: you might wanna go and find yourself a fresh copy of the TDA 7" by Casual Records or the once-rare-as-fuck Porno Cassettes 7" put out by Radio Raheem. Still more real good shit coming out this year, I've heard...

here's a cover of No Choice by Japanese band, Intruders. i got a hold of their tape and it's more along the lines of uk82 inspired lofi Japanese streetpunk rather than straight up uk82 worship, sorta like later Discocks but faster ....at least they have good taste.

Mad Frogs

So, I found a band from nowadays with a name that sounded an awful lot like it should belong to a uk82 band, with pictures of punks on their new cd that looked a fuck of a lot like 80's pictures and their songs i found on youtube reminded me of old british punks playing something like what they grew up with. So, after a few emails with New Dawn studio i discovered that this band had been around in the 80s and apparently just never recorded. And apparently the singer and his brother have been punks since damn near the beginning and were both in bands.
If i get the ok, I'm going to have some chats with a few people, and maybe an interview and put up the info on here. Neil from New Dawn studio (where the cd was recorded) has one old and one upcoming interview with singer Neebs for his punk radio show too - i will try and get a link for that.

For now, here are some of their youtube songs:

Rough Justice

hopefulyl a few more demo tracks in the future...

Organized Chaos

the Fits

i draw the line after that last song from the 12" spit with the Test Tubes. the Fits were also on the Total Anarchy comp.

Napalm Death

started out as a punk band and totally reformed into what people know them as ...?

Exit Stance

...maybe more to come... loose comp tracks etc

Anti-Pasti

being lazy again... gonna comb through all the posts soon and fill the worthwhile ones up. but for now here's a best of:

uk82 bands that completely suck to me - Round 1: other Discharge, Suburban Filth & the Accursed

the other Discharge
they are the second half of this video, the band labels are switched. the first band is actually the Filth, who are good.

Suburban Filth

the Accursed

this band had a bunch of material and i could never, for the fuckin life of me, get into it

the Filth

the bands are mislabeled in this video, the Filth is the first bands audio on this split

the Mental

Dick Lucas singing. Members pre-Subhumans, Wild Youth & Death Trip.

"new" band - Shackles

Since i'm on an out-of-date Canadian kick, here's Shackles from Ottawa. Obviously uk82 inspired, this band (was?) is fronted by Germ Attak drummer Will, and the recording saw Germ Attak frontman, Jo (man of 1000 bands....), on the drums.

if you can;t snag a tape, the demos up for free download somewhere on the internet

"new" band - Proxy

more french canadians kicking ass... Proxy sound (to me) like a mix of Blitz, real early Motorhead and some 80s UK punk style mixed with originality and the hooks of 77 punk & powerpop or some shit. They've put out a handful of records already, go look em up.

the demo can be downloaded for free here.

"new" band - Sexface

Sexface from Montreal - first recordings coming out soon and they're apparently going to be on a comp 7" with Rotten, Primitive Pact & Savageheads.

News

so ths rotten UK ep is coming out in November.

and then a comp. is coming out featuring Rotten, Primitive Pact, Sexface & Savageheads.
and Primitive Pacts new recording is coming out soon...

also some murmurs of sick ass uk82 reissues and a lost must-hear 80s album finally being pressed... you'll just have to keep your ears to street... this is shit to be excited about...

Thursday, October 16, 2014

close enough... foreign punk.. uk82----ish?

international 80's bands that i liked cuz it sounds like uk82, rather than alot of what was going on in their respective countries at the time...
im sick and being lazy. this supernerd shit aint for me, i like playin it not postin it. someones gotta do it tho... someone wanna help? its pretty easy but tis fucking stupid and soulsucking. take a good (or decent enough) uk82 band and find all their shit on youtube/myspcae/whatever, from the 80s, that is still punk and not pop-rock, new wave, hard rock, post punk or whatever other shit bands turned into, and throw it on here. i imagine this is what office jobs are like...

the Bristles - sweden

The Squats - netherlands (pre-Magnificent)

demos and live

SS Kids - france - listen to "disorder" and try not to lose your shit

Discords - montreal Canada - so this was actually a skinhead band (canada and montreal's 1st) but half of their only 7" here sounds pretty fuckin punk. don't listen to the 90's come back album.... ever

Existenz - sweden

War Risk III - belgium - nice skunk sound

they're on this good comp.

Flesh D-Vice - new zealand - this one has a weird fucked up beat like lotta NZ punk from the 80s does, and sadly their only shit on youtube is this one song from their 1st album (the only good one) - "12 Inches Of Hard FLesh". Find it if you can, its got a few good ones on it (like "dead Girls" and "Friday Night") but alot of bullshit too.

the Menstrual Cycles - florida USA - my buddy Gio from Skunx (toronto) showed me this band once. they kinda suck but didn't sound like most USHC from the time. here's a song from their "Retirement Home" ep

Noncens - sweden (again...) - ok so you're finding out not all swedish hc sounds like discharge on (more?) speed, but some people don't know that cuz sll they liked was crust and scandi-core DeWd! (i love finnish hardcore and other harder swedish stuff so fuck off). if you wanna go really "soft" for swedish hc punk then listen to Asta Kask. This Noncens songs pretty good but their real jam is "Battlefield", yeah i said jam.

Les Cadavres - france - ok these guys sound a lot like french stuff, who cares, listen to more french stuff. i love 80s french oi and streetpunk. this ep is the only cadavres shit i really like tho...

some of these bands are pushing it, i'm sure i could go all day with this gray area shit... the real lesson is all the best hc punk was in the 80's europe (prettymuch, shut the fuck up, i can hear it already... japan blah blah, brasil blah blah usa. i like ti all but uk82 and anything close is the best, so fuck off and go somewhere else on the itnernet) and not all of its blown out and hard as fuck (which ain't bad...) but can keep melodies with aggression (which is why i like uk82). there's tons of good shit from all over the world, it doesn't have to be in english to sound good either, go find out for yourself.

Distorted Truth

news...

so i'm less lazy now and life has temporarily stopped kicking me in the skull, so i will be posting on here semi-regularly. I'm not gonna read what i've already put on this site so some worthwhile shit (on the wannabe '82 front) has come out: Savageheads and Primitive Pact both have 7"s out, Rotten UK has word is theres a new Primitive Pact tape coming soon and Bone Spells plan on recording soon. Bloodsuckers (ex-corpse gas) turned into a ushc band and died before they could do anything else - they playe one show in Milwaukee with Skunx, Corpse Gas reunion, Pervert Preachers and some others, and it was great, oh well... Skunx were apparently recording something, possibly on vinyl, just to leave a mark, even though theyre breaking/broken up? Also when is this band (sexface) gonna have another song out somewhere so i can see what the fucks up with them, cuz i sure as fuck ain't gonna see em live anytime soon. Word is Distort Reality's putting them out, we'll see:

maybe if i feel liek gettin really fuckin nerdy i'll put out a list of recent uk82 reissues... probably not. go look for yourself.

"new" band - Bombed Out

'08 e.p.

"new band" - Drapetomania

some of you will fail to see the relevance between this band and uk82 and thats fine cuz im making this fuckin blog and not you. i saw them once and it was great. They have uk82, latino punk and subtle oi influences. Also their singer made Nabat shirts (that i bought of course) and had a bunch of Nabat tattoos, and you can see the influence on some of their (his) artwork. Nabat is an 80's italian oi (and sorta hc) band, with a raw sound like early Oppressed or Last Resort's "working class kids" but on steroids. This band has since broken up 2 tapes and one 7" later...

"new" band - Rotten UK

Rotten... from NY state, not the UK. Loved and hated.

"new" band - TVC

found this band while doing the 2-Komponentz page, which they share members with (and possibly Nollkompetenz?).

"new" band - 2-Komponentz

Swedish band, member(s?) went on to Nollkompetenz & TVC... still active? ever active live? one man band? oh the mystery. maybe you could just email them... only "real" release was a 7", to which i actually prefer the crazy weird drum machine demo sounds. Interesting band.

an early release/nod to the band they did the spit with, a much younger Germ Attak.

Check out youtube for many mroe demos, soem tracks from the 7" session, cover songs etc. You can download all of their recorded output (up to a point in time), except the 7", here: http://www.angelfire.com/ab8/polaq/downloads.html

ex-Dead On Arrival

later on they took a more oi/streetpunk approach and this song was featured on the '89 "Pop Oi!" comp before it was later released on the Surf city" ep

"new" band - Corpse Gas

Corspe Gas from Chicago Il. Named afer a Destrutors song. They put out 2 demo tapes and broke up around 2011/12 and had/have shared members with other chicago area bands: White Rose (80s finnish hc worship), Radiation Sickness, Seal Clubbin Sluts, Bloodsuckers, Pervert Preachers & Boy Sloppy and probably a few more.
Apprently the Download still works on Gio from Skunx' (toronto) old blog "In For The 80's".

Public Disorder

Onslaught

This band started out as a Discharge worship punk band and later turned into a famous metal band. Here's their early demos. At times they gave Discharge a run for their money.

Disorder (2)

Hostile Youth

the Transistors

well, the douchebag from Open Circuit records shut down every tranistors video on youtube, including the one i had put up of both of their 7"s. I recommend you track them both down, they're both stand-outs for uk82 band and they both sound like different bands, but not in a bad way. The first being catchier and the second more aggressive.

"new" band - Further Charges

Further Charges, from the Russian Federation, have been around since around 2010(?). They started as more of a Chaos UK and other obscure hardcore/noisy uk82-type inspired band who i had only heard 4 songs from on myspace. Which was later wittled down to 2 myspace songs and then some live songs recorded and filmed on video.
I once tried to bribe them with cider to tour here in the states. Needless to say that wasn't enough, but the singer Dima seems fuckin cool and got arrested for breaking into a liquor store and stealing alcohol, if my memory serves right. That's all i gotta hear, right there.

Anyway, they have a full length casette out ("Destruction Satellite", partially posted below and available from Soap and Spikes distro) and have moved past the just purely raw noisy punk stage of many years ago but stay true to uk82 and 80s hardcore punk.

Noisy Chaos UK/Disorder/Discharge influenced song from myspace:
"Q: And Raw Punks? A: And Raw Punks!"

newer, more eclectic 10 song release - available through Soap and Spikes distro in the USA.

"new" band - Bone Spells

BONE SPELLS
Portland, OR

Bone Spells need to record some fucking music already. Offhand all i know is that i fucking love them and there's ex-Bog People in there.

"new" band - Contingent

CONTINGENT
Boston, Mass.

Contingent are a current band who have 80's punk and obvious 80's european oi influences.Hoepfully they stick around and make more music. Offhand i know the band has some guys from Bloodkrow Butcher and Who Killed Spikey Jacket? This is missing one song from their cassette - the song "Right to Die"

"new" band - Skunx

SKUNX - Toronto, Canada

Skunx had a unique sound, sorta like uk82 meets a mix of midtempo, raw 80's french, british and even italian& south american oi! melodies and beats. They have recently broken up and sadly only left behind a few tapes and 2 comp tracks. Here is most of their recorded songs:

"new" band - Germ Attak

every now and then i will post a "new" band with uk82 style. msot of these bands will have broken up, sadly, but a few wil lstill be around so check em out.

GERM ATTAK - RIP. Ottawa, Canada
They had a good noisy UK82 sound gooing on mixed with some swedish hc i nthere and as theyr progressed they mixed in a little bit of the finish hardcore style,, and near the end of their career they had adopted a more melodic uk82 approach to their previous style. I will add more stuff later, they have too much music and im lazy.
